In the 1950’s when brothers Mario and Franco Berra came to Australia from their homeland of Italy, there was almost nowhere to buy great coffee and very few cafes that knew how to create it. Australia’s now thriving café society was still a dream.
So, to the delight of Australian coffee lovers from all over the world, Coffee MIO was born in Melbourne when Mario and Franco decided to bring fabulous Italian espresso coffee to their new home.
Working from the back of a shed that was cramped with all the accoutrements of a fledgling cottage industry, the two brothers sold their product in hand-filled hessian sacks out of the back of a not-too-reliable van to sympathetic café owners. They managed to build a steady band of loyal clients looking for quality products. By the late 1960’s, Coffee MIO was established as a brand name in its own right and still operates out of Melbourne with distributors all over Australia.
Still true to the passion of our founding fathers fifty years ago. Still making authentic Italian espresso coffee and selling Italian Gaggia machines and equipment. And still family-run with customer service that is second-to-none.
